Introduction:

This multi-level program is designed to develop and strengthen the bank’s trade finance team through a progressive structure. Comprised of three levels, this program was developed around the different knowledge, skills, and needs of the target participants based on their experience and expertise on trade finance. This approach optimizes the impact of the program to the participants and their banks.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss underlying principles of trade finance
  • Demonstrate the step-by-step decision-making process during trade transactions
  • Identify and resolve common issues in trade scenarios
  • Apply practical approaches to improve daily operations, such as risk mitigating factors, correcting documentation defects, and possible amendments

Target Audience and Course Outline:

This program will greatly benefit bank personnel from the International Operations, Finance, Corporate Banking, Internal Audit, Credit Risk, and Compliance Departments. Those who are interested in the Trade Finance business and/or are expected to enhance their competency in trade finance operations are also encouraged to enroll in the program.

Trade Finance Practitioners are recommended to choose the levels according to their skill, knowledge, and interest.

  • Understanding of various International Trade Settlement Methods

b. Intermediate:

  • Detailed Study on:

i. Documentary Collections – and URC522

ii. Letters of Credit – and UCP600 and ISBP745

iii. Bank Guarantees – URDG758 and

iv. Standby LC and ISP98

  • What and why Documents are involved in International Trade
  • Bank Financing to Importer and Exporter under International Trade Operations
  • Initial understanding on TFML – Trade Finance Money Laundering, and Compliance Check

c. Advance:

Part 1: One Step Further on Letter of Credit, Documentary Collection, Bank Guarantee and Standby LC – Discrepant Documents Handling and Case Studies.

Part 2: Comparison and Application of URDG758, ISP98 and UCP600 for LC, Bank Guarantee and Standby LC.

Part 3: How can Banks prevent and control TBML – Trade Based Money Laundering.

Part 4: Types of Bank to Bank Financing Methods under International Trade Operations.
